wednesday's word

Repertory ~ is a reference collection of human conditions that Homeopathic Practitioners use hand in hand with the Materia Medica to find a correct remedy that will be considered while looking at all the possible remedies. It lists every condition, from the Mind to Generalities throughout and including the body parts, most commonly but not always in alphabetical order depending on which Repertory you reference. The sections that are called Rubrics, list the types of conditions, with all the abbreviated remedies showing the least and the most common in provings as well as in clinical experience.  The grading system is shown in regular, italic or bold print. This means how often it (“it” being, the remedy) is seen in the frequency of the provings. Bold print would be the most frequently seen in a proving, italic middle and regular as least observed. This is not necessarily to be passed as the correct or incorrect remedy as you must look for the most suitable for your patient by all considerations. Yasgur's dictionary defines it as such; "By analogy, the materia medica is the white pages and the repertory is the yellow pages of this telephone book." We have MANY repertory exercises each month, looking for the key to unlock an illness rather than assuming one way is the best. At the end of my 2nd year of studies, I will be allowed to use a computer version of which there are several choices but first things first, I must learn the old school way. Quite fascinating this repertory, requiring great patience above all!

A sample listing in a Repertory is as follows:
Throat
Pain
Sore
Right: Ars., bell., calc-p., carb-ac., ham., ind., lac-c., lith., Lyc., lyss., mag-c., merc., merc-i-f., nat-p., nicc., phyt., ptel., sars., tarent., ter., xan.
